Few days ago I was tweeting with a friend (*waves at Gamingpixie*) about a blog entry from someone who wrote some thoughts about the topic of “Victim Blaming” and how many people (usually men) excuse Rape with the sentance “She asked for it”.
Since I’m usually a logical thinking guy let’s analyze this sentance, shall we?
By saying “She asked for it” people are implying that it is, under certain circumstances, ok to commit a serious crime to someone if some … arbitrary reasons are met like:
- The way they dress
- The way they behave
- The people they hang around with
By this definition someone who wears a T-Shirt with a Bullseye printed on it, pointing at himself and hanging around with some hunters is just asking to be shot and it is ok if one of them just decides to shoot this guy, right?
WRONG
I don’t know why this thought even occurs to people, no sane person in the history of mankind ASKED to be the victim of a crime, they BECAME the victim of a crime because SOMEONE ELSE decided to commit a crime to them.
By definition Rape is the sexual intercourse without free consent from the victim, that includes:
- By Force
- Under Threat
- Incapable of Valid consent (Drugged, Unconscious, etc..)
There is no “Asking for it which makes it ok” no matter what someone does, if a woman wants to wear a miniskirt, is all flirty and likes to hang around with guys does not mean that she is ASKING for it that one of these guys just decides to have his way with her AGAINST HER WILL.
The pure unlogical thought process hurts my brain, how can someone even THINK something like that up? What kind of society do these people grow up? *sighs* I just wish more people would start using their brain and stop thinking with their rear or whatever.
Stop blaming the victim, blame the criminals, thats all.
